| Mesothelioma & Asbestos Awareness Center |
We are an
organization specializing in spreading awareness about mesothelioma
and other asbestos related ailments. Mesothelioma, as you may or may
not know, is a deadly cancer that affects the lungs. Many people believe that mesothelioma is a disease that only affects men, however
there are many ways that women have been exposed to this deadly
carcinogen as well.
Over the last several months, my organization has been researching
women and mesothelioma. We have started to develop a new 'Women and
Mesotheliona' section to our website to compliment our other
information. This all-new section will include information on the
history of women and asbestos, common places women were exposed to
asbestos, and the difference of susceptibility to mesothelioma between
a man and a woman. We believe MAACenter to be the most comprehensive mesothelioma site on
the internet. Perhaps one of the best things about the site is that
it remains unbiased from legal and commercial influences. Unfortunately, mesothelioma doesn't attract a lot of media attention
or spark the concern of the masses because the people it affects are
typically blue-collar factory or shipyard workers. It is our goal to
make current and correct information easily accessible to all.
Our site was developed to be a complete guide to mesothelioma for
everyone. We have developed our mesothelioma and asbestos help guide
through various freedom of information act requests along with
countless hours of research. We have also collaborated with several
health care providers to present an in depth medical section,
including a clinical trials database and an interactive "doctor
locator."
We ask that you please take a tour of our site www.maacenter.org and
let us know what you think – be sure to visit the section designed
exclusively as a resource for women (it can be found on the navigation
menu on the left side of the homepage.) If you like the job we're
doing, we would really appreciate a link to our site. I think that
our site would complement the resources you already present.

| The National Cancer Institute (NCI) |
Since the passage of the National Cancer Act over 30 years ago, our nation has made great progress in reducing the burden of cancer. While we have much more to learn about this complex disease, our increased understanding of cancer at the genetic, molecular, and cellular levels is opening up enormous opportunity to interrupt the initiation and progression of the disease. Over the course of the 20th century, the primary strategy for treating cancer was "seek and destroy." Now, in an effort to preserve healthy cells and improve outcomes, we are increasing efforts to "target and control" cancer by modulating and altering the behavior of the disease. Someday, we will eliminate cancer, but for today our immediate goal is to eliminate the suffering and death due to cancer. I have publicly issued a challenge to the cancer community to achieve this goal by 2015. |
